update-notifier not reporting updates needed

Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-notifier
Since upgrading to Jaunty, despite the fact that there are updates to be done (update-manager shows them if I open it up), update-notifier is not notifying me that there updates available.
Especially for a devel-release, this is silly. There are typically updates every day. I'd like to keep up to date on them, daily. Update-notifier should be showing me these as soon as they are available.
