Bug Description

Gedit 2.13.93:

Cannot switch between tabs with Ctrl-Page up/down.

Do the following:

1. Open i. e. 3 documents in Gedit
2. Write a few charakters in the first document
3. Now press Ctrl-Page down - Now the second document tab should be activated but instead the cursor jumps to the end of the line in the first document.

Ctrl-Page up/down should work in Gedit as in every Gnome application with tabs.

This is because Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDown is used by gtksourceview (the gedit text widget) to jump from a paragraph to another.

The keybindings gedit uses are Ctrl+Alt+PgUp/PgDn

But that's not very user friendly. In every Gnome application I have used so far Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDown were for navigating between tabs.

Why not in Gedit? This makes no sense for me and is not very logical...

Thanks for your bug. As explained there is a conflict of keybindings and upstream has decided they will keep this way. We don't want to divert from upstream, so I'm rejecting the bug as notabug. Feel free to argue upstream about that

I'm affected by this bug as well.
It's really disturbing my workflow, since gedit behaves differently from other apps such as gnome-terminal.
Having that said, I consider this a bug (with low severity though) as it's a bad and not consistent userexperience.

In order to argue upstream about that, do you have any references handy?

If Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn is reserved, then my suggestion is: keep Ctrl+Alt+PgUp/PgDn (maybe some people love them), but add some other key combination too. Maybe Alt+PgUp and Alt+PgDn. These are not used for anything.

Today I accidentally hitted Ctrl+Alt+Backspace instead of Ctrl+Alt+PgUp.
It's not funny at all.

I have the same problem, and really affected by it. I also used to work with Ctrl+Tab to switch between tabs, but that doesn't work anymore
