Are you able to reproduce this issue on current jaunty? If so, please collect a full backtrace - see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for directions.

Hmm. I understand the need to keep production systems stable.

There was a fix I put in Jaunty for crashes when using Xinerama and moving the mouse between monitors which I *suspect* may solve this bug, however that was mostly seen on -nvidia. I would bet it fixes this bug too, but probably only $5 or so. It would be nice if you could verify it is fixed in jaunty, but given the circumstances I think what I'll do is mark it fixed. When you get a chance to test, if you find the issue still exists, please reopen with a full backtrace and we can look further.

A couple other positive things you'll find in Jaunty, is that -fglrx now supports xrandr 1.2 (at least partially), which should help with multi-monitor setups, and second the open source -ati driver has improved considerably, so possibly you won't need to resort to binary drivers in the future.
