Bug Description

Since 1 week I have the following error:
when I start my computer and logging in, my windows (example Nautilus) hasn't any borders at the top, bottom, left or right. (look my "screenshot" attempting at the bottom of this bugreport).

The screenshot button doesn't work, too. So I must take a photo with my camera =)

Sorry for wrong package (meta-gnome2).
I want to add this bugreport generally to GNOME2

that's nto a meta-gnome2 and not a gnome2 either, those packages doesn't have any code that deal with the windows borders. Which window manager are you running compiz or metacity? Could you open a terminal and execute metacity --replace? does that works fine do you get borders? could you try the same with compiz? thanks.

Changed in meta-gnome2:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

Sorry, but I don't know what package it can be.

I tried "metacity --replace", then I had borders. But on restart, it was just the same bug.
Compiz is in my settings, set to "no effects".
With Compiz Effects, this bug is still there on restart.

Which package could it be? Can I edit this?

I think, you can close this bug.
I found out, that this bug only appears, when I copy a Compiz Fusion Profile from other computer (e.g.: ATI Radeon 850) to my notebook (Intel GMA X3100). Maybe problems with the (graphic) driver?

Same thing happen here.

My video card is an nvidia 8800gtx.

To avoid the problem, I have to start compiz manually from a terminal:

$ compiz >& compiz.out &

Then it works normally.

This bug has been reported since 20006 though ...

This bug is present in Jaunty. I believe it is not related to GNOME or KDE but something else, because both kwin and metacity exhibit this problem. In fact, this post explains that Debian Lenny has the bug too, so the problem is upstream and not related to ubuntu's modifications, thus hopefully cutting down the number of packages that may be the culprit:
http://fixunix.com/debian/513777-sometimes-only-1-desktop-no-window-border-kde.html

I have also posted some info on the reconstructor forums pertaining to this bug:
http://reconstructor.aperantis.com/index.php?option=com_joomlaboard&func=view&id=1323&catid=3#1323

I've also attached a screenshot of my testing, showing 2 builds made from reconstructor, one of which the LiveCD does not exhibit the bug. I believe the importance of this bug should be bumped up from low priority as it is pretty serious considering it prevents you from using the desktop as you normally would. Also somebody needs to file it against more correct packages rather than compiz. I would do this but it appears that I don't know how or do not have the permission to do so.
