The same bug seems to be reported, and fixed in previous releases. This just occurred to me in Jaunty alpha 5.

This crash has the same stack trace characteristics as bug #203808. However, the latter was already fixed in an earlier package version than the one in this report. This might be a regression or because the problem is in a dependent package.

Can you run

sudo /var/lib/dpkg/info/python-cups

and see whether this solves the problem? In this case this bug would be the same as bug 335543.

Looks like a problem in with the transition to Python 2.6 in python-central, according to IRC discussion with mvo and DktrKranz.
