Bug Description

I try to burn OGG-Audio-Files on a CD via Braseros "Create Audio CD Project" in Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha 5. Brasero doesn't start burning and hangs unstead saying "normalizing title...".

Same here.
Pedro it's not crashing - it just seems like it's waiting for something.

I guess it has something to do with my external usb cd-burner. I'll check that out.

Update: No, it doesn't work either on another machine with an internal disk drive. So maybe it has something to do with the normalizing process.

Found a workaround: Its easy to disable normalize since it's a plugin. Just chose "Plugins" from the "Edit"-Menu and clear checkbox beneath "Normalize". Now everything works fine - except normalizing of course ;)

confirmed on a jaunty 64 bits up-to-date with MP3s instead of OGGs. I had to install gnomebaker to burn my CD, so it's not a burner problem, and doubt it's a dependency one.

Brasoros doesn't hang, it just stay there doing nothing

This seems to be a problem off the normalization plugin of Brasero.
Maybe Gnomebaker uses this feature too?

At burn-job.c:1306: BraseroNormalize called brasero_job_get_tracks

is where it gets looping when brasero is started with brasero -g

note i didnt have gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad

I have the same problem in Jaunty beta 32 bit. Disabling the "normalizing" plugin fixed it, but that is just a workaround.

Just wanted to add that this is still the case in the RC. Will a fix for this make it into the relaease, or will the normalization plugin have to be disabled by default? I was hoping something might have come with some of the gstreamer bad plugin updates I've seen over the last couple weeks. When this feature made it into Brasero a while back, it brought me back to Gnome from KDE and K3B. It is also a big problem if the program hangs for everyone who tries to burn an audio cd in Brasero with the default settings.

Still the case in the release. I think the logical solution is to disable normalization when burning audio discs as this leaves the audio cd burning feature effectively broken for the average user who wont bother trying to figure it out.

Confirmed occurring on Fedora 11 (Leonidas) as well.
Rhythmbox calls brasero internally to write CD burns, and would seem to "hang" at the normalization step.

Noted some interesting behavior:
brasero was set to use /tmp for building the normalized image.
In the temp directory, a brasero file appeared and slowly grew.
After 10-15 minutes, the file was only 130KB or so.
So, it seems something was being written, just at painfully slow speeds.

Started brasero directly to disable the normalization plugin and was able to burn from rhythmbox successfully by skipping that step.

Same thing is happening to me on Ubuntu 9.04. It would just hang on normalizing tracks. I left it for a very long time one day, and it never moved past that. I just disabled the normalizing plugin, as suggested, and now it is burning to the disc, as I write. Thanks for the tips!
