Bug Description

I've been importing some new music lately and several times, Banshee has consumed 100% CPU while downloading cover art. It would get stuck on a certain artist/album and use 100% CPU. It would never seem to finish. I clicked on the red stop icon the pop up dialog tells me I can stop it. However clicking the 'Stop' doesn't stop the downloading the cover art.

I haven't been doing this while playing music, so I'm not sure if you can still listen to music while doing this.

One such example for me was 'Oceanborn' by 'Nightwish'

Thanks for reporting this. There have been some upstream fixes to the 1.4 series that have made this better. Could you possibly try the PPA version? It's available here: https://launchpad.net/~banshee-team/+archive/ppa. 1.4 is also available in Jaunty, if you'd rather test there.

For reference, there's still an open bug here, but I'm not sure whether it will cover what you're seeing or not: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=541469

Please report back one way or the other so we can proceed accordingly!

Hi David,

Thanks for finding the bug upstream. In the future if you could click "Also affects project" and paste the URL in there launchpad will link the bug and track it. (It's also easier for maintainers to query for bugs with upstream links so it doesn't get lost). Thanks!

Have you actually pushed this to the stable repos, if not it is still not fixed. anyone installing from Ubuntu will still come and disturbing the developers aside getting a poor Banshee experience. The PPA while an admirable and valuable effort is an insufficient fix for this.

Hmm stable repos eh? Perhaps it might be a good idea to have 1.5.1 backported to
jaunty-backports, or otherwise SRUed. But for the time being, it needs to enter
Ubuntu Karmic first. See Bug #451820.

The safe option is to apply the patch and keep 1.4.3 then push that to
stable, the bug would go away and every one would be happy.. no?

There are many other bugs akin to this which should receive similar attention.
So no, not every one would be happy unless someone's willing to round up all the
bugs needed to be fixed that have simple and nice patches.
