Hello and Thank You for a prompt response

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H rev 1.1, Integrated ATI HD3200
AMD780G Chipset Hardware encoding.

I purchased this Motherboard a while ago and intended to build a PVR,
this was the first step.

CPU AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2500 Mhz L2Cache 512KB x 2.

Movie Legal Copy of Movie DVD

Memory 2 GB Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/2G

I also changed the allocated Memory Setting in the Motherboard Bios for
the Chipset from Auto to 512 kb (Max)

I am about to change the connection between the motherboard and the LCD
monitor from VGA to DVI-D. I was using a Belkin flip between both
computers VGA connectors only. Will collect cable on Thursday.

My LCD monitor is a Benq FP937S, not a unit that Ubuntu has ever
recognised. So I have had to use the command line to configure.

This time I have used the ATI Catalyst Control Centre ver 2.1
Driver ver. 8.54.3

To check that I did not have a hardware problem.
I changed the SATA ll Drive and installed an evaluation copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. The DVD plays perfectly.

Hello Sebastian
Thank you
I have been away

   1. It is a Gigabyte Motherboard with 2.4 GHz AMD CPU integrated
Graphics ATI 3200 with the ATI (fglrx) Drivers from AMD
   2. I took my computer with me and whilst I was away installed Linux
      Mint 6
   3. Completely updated system yesterday, when I returned home.
   4. I now have Totem Movie Player 2.24.3 using xine LIB 1.1.15
installed as part of the package. The picture is now ok (Flickers
about every 10-15 seconds), but a great improvement.

I have a copy of Windows 7 on separate SATA Drive Movie Plays plays well
on the same computer.

It may well be an overhead problem.

Thought I might download an AMD 64 version of Jaunty or would you prefer
I try the 32 bit version

Will try Jaunty this weekend and let you know

Christopher
