Bug Description

When I wanted to install kubuntu-restricted-extras in Kubuntu Jaunty, it wanted to install the following packages:
  ca-certificates-java flashplugin-nonfree gnome-audio gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio
  ia32-libs icedtea-6-jre-cacao icedtea6-plugin kdelibs-data kdelibs4c2a
  kubuntu-restricted-extras lib32asound2 lib32gcc1 lib32ncurses5 lib32stdc++6
  lib32z1 libaccess-bridge-java libasound2-plugins libavahi-qt3-1
  libavcodec-unstripped-52 libavutil-unstripped-49 libc6-i386 libdbus-qt-1-1c2
  libdvdnav4 libdvdread3 libdvdread4 libfaad0 libfftw3-3 libgsm1
  libk3b2-extracodecs libk3b3 libk3b3-extracodecs libofa0 liboil0.3 libpostproc51
  libpulse-browse0 libpulsecore9 libqt3-mt libschroedinger-1.0-0 libsndfile1
  libspeexdsp1 libtunepimp5 libtunepimp5-mp3 libxine1-ffmpeg nspluginwrapper
  openjdk-6-jre openjdk-6-jre-headless openjdk-6-jre-lib pulseaudio
  pulseaudio-esound-compat pulseaudio-module-hal pulseaudio-module-x11
  pulseaudio-utils rhino ttf-bengali-fonts ttf-kannada-fonts ttf-oriya-fonts
  ttf-telugu-fonts ttf-wqy-zenhei tzdata-java unrar

I was surprised that gnome-audio/gstreamer/pulseaudio packages as Kubuntu used xine by default. Also, pulling in Qt 3 dependencies into Qt4/KDE4 clean installation does not makes much sense.

I think this needs proper review and cleanup before Jaunty Beta release.

Please fix this - I don't run KDE anymore, so I don't know of the requirements for Kubuntu (and I don't think Michael Vogt does either).

I also believe that this package needs some reviewing. I may be missing something but why does this package require icedtea6? I thought that Icedtea6 and OpenJDK are free software. Trefore they don't belong to K-restr-extr.
Also by installing this package one gets 2 flavours of JAVA one is sun-java6 and the other the OpenJDK.

Subsequently one needs to do a "sudo update-alternatives --config java to choose between the two options.

IMHO icedtea6 should be installed by default in Kubuntu and only sun-java6 should be included in K-res-extr.

Sun-Oracle Java is removed from Kubuntu-restricted-extras 10.04 -12.04, since a while.

OpenJDK is opensource therefore it won't appear in restricted area, doesn't make a lot of sense.

This bug is overdue to be closed.

So can we close this bug or does it still make problems?
