Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Background:

I use firefox through x forward (ssh -X -C -c blowfish remote.machine firefox). This worked well in Hardy. The client machine is a PPC OpenSuse 11.1 box.

What's expected to happen:

Firefox starts and runs reasonably quickly as it did using Hardy.

What actually happens:

After upgrading to intrepid I get the error "An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for firefox Some of your configuration settings may not work properly."

The error box appears before each window (the profile window, the extension update window, and firefox browser window itself). The box has a details button which does not respond. The error box itself looks frozen. Firefox will eventually start and be exceptionally slow (it was quick before the intrepid upgrade).

The error was that the ~/.dbus directory was owned by root and not by my user. Don't know what to mark the bug as.

Chowning the ~/.dbus directory fixed the issue, also fixed an issue I had with gwibber. Seems like at some point ~/.dbus fell under root's control. I had the gwibber issue before upgrading to Intrepid, so it's not an upgrade issue either.

Changed in firefox-3.0:
status: Incomplete → Invalid
