cant activate compiz

Bug Description
using both Apperance menu and compiz --replace fails on my system (jaunty 64bits with nvidia card)
$ apt-cache policy compiz Installed: 1:0.7.9+

$ compiz --replace

It seems likely that this is a dupe of bug 178953. Do you have Metacity's compositor enabled?
