Bug Description

Binary package hint: gwhois

The GWHOIS client in the latest development version of Jaunty is using an out-of-date list of WHOIS servers.

Examples are GG and JE which were changed from WHOIS.ISLES.NET many years ago.

WHOIS.ISLES.NET doesn't even work anymore.

The WHOIS servers for Port 43 are WHOIS.GG and WHOIS.JE since over a year ago.

See www. iana.org for the authoritative list of WHOIS servers.

Example output

nigel@skylark:~$ uname -a
Linux skylark 2.6.28-8-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 5 21:49:36 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
nigel@skylark:~$ gwhois nic.gg
Process query: 'nic.gg'
Querying whois.isles.net:43 with whois.

Query to whois server failed.

--
To resolve one of the above handles: whois -h whois.isles.net HANDLE
OTOH offical handles should be recognised directly.
