Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
I have a fresh and updated install of ubuntu in my Sony Vaio VGN-SR250FN.
Indeed the fresh installation didn't correctly recognize the video card and i changed the xorg.conf settings to:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "intel"
After that the screen resolution and performance worked fine.
But when using Mozilla or Glest that stresses the video carf i got these many errors:
daemon.log:Mar 2 21:02:00 aleplacencia-laptop gdm[5474]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
daemon.log:Mar 4 00:50:28 aleplacencia-laptop gdm[5448]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
daemon.log:Mar 4 01:19:00 aleplacencia-laptop gdm[5498]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
daemon.log:Mar 4 01:54:00 aleplacencia-laptop gdm[5491]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
daemon.log:Mar 6 20:19:00 aleplacencia-laptop gdm[5528]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
daemon.log:Mar 8 02:46:00 aleplacencia-laptop gdm[5961]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
daemon.log.0:Mar 2 00:47:32 aleplacencia-laptop gdm[5479]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
daemon.log.0:Mar 2 01:07:02 aleplacencia-laptop gdm[5512]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
syslog:Mar 8 02:46:00 aleplacencia-laptop gdm[5961]: WARNING: gdm_slave_
I've reading about this, and it seems to be a very generic error of X.
On last crash, i recolected some information and found this errors and warnings not present on a normal session log:
Xorg.0.log:(EE) [drm] Could not set DRM device bus ID.
Xorg.0.log:(EE) intel(0): [dri] DRIScreenInit failed. Disabling DRI.
Xorg.0.log:(WW) intel(0): ESR is 0x00000001
Xorg.0.log:(WW) intel(0): PRB0_CTL (0x0001f001) indicates ring buffer enabled
The behaviour of bug is that X crashes suddenly, and gets to login window ... i can login after that, but the configuration has changed and effects and disabled, and even if screen layout looks fine, when trying to start Glest (this is the program that makes the bug occur more frequently, but not exclusively) the video performance is very degradaded and the system can even freeze.
i'm attaching as much information i can:
