Bug Description

I use a toshiba A40 and have had ubuntu since 6.06 on it it has worked perfectly. Now all of a sudden it seems impossible to make it work after it it has been on screensaver for a while. After a long time without activity say 4 hours it usually it is just to hit a key or move the mouse to make it wake up. But now something is different. When I move the mouse very slowly the brown gnome desktop shows for about 1 minute then the menus appear very slowly. On the same time the disk activty is very frequent. Thn after 2 minutes I got everything back as it was before the sleep. But if I touch anything everything gets grey and the disk activity is very hard. Could it be that the disk is full so the swapfile does not have enough room??

I have a very similar problem with Ubuntu 9.04 on my Toshiba Satellite A200.

The problem happens sometimes when I use the suspend function - but not all the time.

Upon waking everything is going very slowly and hard disk activity is maxing out. If I immediately click shutdown I can shut down semi-gracefully, however if I leave it for a minute or so it gets slower and slower to the point of being non-responsive.

Not sure where to start with providing debug information - any guidance would be appreciated.

The funny thing is that when I upgraded to 9.04 the problem was still there. But since the last three weeks I have not had this problem. On another I have still problem with wakening the computer when the screen saver is activated. Then it is impossible to wake the computer with the usb connected mouse. But it will wake up perfectly when I use the mouse pad. But when the screen saver have had itś time and the screen is completely black the usb mouse can wake the computer again.

Hi axelsvag,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 339394

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
