Bug Description

Yesterday I exported the Bulgarian translation from https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/sushi.tekka/1.0/+pots/tekka/bg/+translate, imported the .po file into our Git repository and did a published upload of it (at https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/sushi.tekka/1.0/+pots/tekka/+upload).

I am now listed in the translator-credits (https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/sushi.tekka/1.0/+pots/tekka/bg/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=translator-credits), which is obviously wrong. I changed some headers to remove dummy information ("FULL NAME <EMAIL@ADDRESS>"), but Last-Translator remained intact, as well as all translated strings. As far as I can see, all other translations are attributed correctly.

(It would also be nice if someone could remove me from the list of contributors.)

The problem is with re-uploading a file which contains automatic translation of translator-credits message. I.e. you can see that you are now listed as translator at https://translations.launchpad.net/sushi.tekka/1.0/+pots/tekka/bg/+filter?person=suraia

We can manually remove you from the contributors list, but we'd have to remove this message as well (it's not useful anyway, since LP will regenerate it, and you'll even hit a bug where it re-appends the same text, if you look at https://translations.launchpad.net/sushi.tekka/1.0/+pots/tekka/bg/77/+translate).

What I also wonder is why did you go through the trouble of downloading and re-uploading a PO file? Were there some changes to the actual translation in your git repository? If you just wanted to sync the translation with your recent POT file, it's enough to upload a POT to Launchpad and it will handle the rest for you.

What I do not understand is why I am listed as the translator of translator-credits as I did not change it. This has not happened before. So, do I need to remove translator-credits each time I upload a PO file, even if I did not change it?

I uploaded the PO file so the translations show up as "Translation unchanged since last synchronized" and I can easily identify new translations in Launchpad.

It is a bug in Launchpad that we are assigning a translation to you for the message Launchpad generated itself. The problem is that PO files don't contain the ability to give credit for each individual string, but we can work around that by recognizing a LP-generated translation.

Until that bug is fixed (bug #278955), you'd have to manually remove that message before re-uploading translations. Sorry about that.

Still, I have to check why do you get credit for published uploads if Last-Translator is correctly listed (though, this is likely related to bug #258370). If I find out it is, I'll close this one as duplicate.

Actually, bug 258370 is a case where last-translator is not up to date. However, since we are not seeing even what is described in this bug, I wonder if this keeps happening for you Michael: make sure last-translator field is correctly set to a translator *and* an email address (Launchpad can only use something unique per-person like an email address to tie the two together). If it ever happens for you again, please attach a PO file to make it easier for us to both investigate and reproduce.
