Bug Description

ubuntu-bug does not work, even logging from neighbor box with xserver-xorg-video-intel...
On the node in question, Driver "ati" in xorg.conf produces chessboard like garbage on the screen.
Caps/num/screen lock leds are not functional on the keyboard.
Unlike radeonhd (total system lockup), remote sessions work.

Xorg.0.log is attached.
xorg.conf is generic with device
        Driver "ati"
option.

Can you please try with

in the Device section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

And finally config file.

Note, that 'radeonhd' driver produce full lockup - I'm even unable to got Xorg.0.log from them.

Exactly the same for 6.12:

Produces live console! I'm able to login into gdm finally.
But the picture still looks chess-board like :-(
Snapshot attached.

Option "ColorTiling" "off"

provides working X-Windows, but sure, w/o acceleration :-(

Option "ColorTiling" "off"
#Option "NoAccel" "true"

still console lockup, but garbage is not 'chessboard' like anymore....

So, the reason for 'chessboard' garbage - ColorTiling does not work for RV560
Have to figure out lockup reason...

[This is an automatic notification.]

A new version of the -ati driver is now available in Karmic.

This is a significant update to -ati which brings in kernel mode-setting
(currently disabled) and scores of fixes for DRI2, EXA, etc.

I've posted the new version of this driver to the following PPA,
would you mind testing it and seeing if it resolves the bug you
reported?

  https://edge.launchpad.net/~bryceharrington/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/709908/+listing-archive-extra

If you're not running this release of Ubuntu, you can try booting the Karmic
LiveCD and loading the PPA onto it, and then log out/in to restart X.
ISOs are available at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/

After testing Karmic, report back here whether it's still an issue or not,
and if it is please post a fresh Xorg.0.log and 'dmesg' output.

Note there could be new bugs... please file these as new reports using
the command 'ubuntu-bug xorg'.
