Bug Description
When changing to tty[1-6] no login prompt is chown.
Instead: a black screen appears (even no blinking underscore in the top-left corner, like in hardy). When choosing tty1 it go back to tty7 (graphic mode). I fixed partially doing this:
sudo vi /etc/initramfs-
added fbcon and vesafb
sudo update-initramfs -u -k all -v
sudo vi /etc/modprobe.
added comment to vesafb
#blacklist vesafb
as found in https:/
Now, it doesn't revert to tty7 , no other problems exist, everything else is ok, system is ok.
(I've done the same thing in hardy and now it works)
This happens on a HP EliteBook 8530w w/Nvidia Quadro 770. This is a fresh installation no major changes have been made, I'm using the nvidia driver non-free version 177.
Grub was changed in order to get the correct resolution:
boot options ro vga=893 (no splash, not quiet and 1920x1200)
kernel is 2.6.27-11-generic.
Release Ubuntu 8.10 - 64bit
If any further information is needed I'll be glad to help.
Thank you.
Hi!
Just to update the current situation:
I disabled compiz and uninstalled the NVidia driver (nvidia-glx-177)
After reboot, it works!
I reinstalled the NVidia driver
After a new reboot I tested again and BANG... it doesn't work anymore.
Seems that I cannot have both vesafb and nvidia drivers runing.
Is there a solution? How do I get this working. After all it's not a bug, I think
