Bug Description

I have nvidia setup on two screens (twinview, no xinerama). My distro is kubuntu 8.10 i386 with kde 4.2 beta. I get mainly horizontal video tearing on the tv out (mplayer or kaffeine or vlc) but sometimes the video playback flicker too. I am not supposed to file bug reports when using kde 4.2 but there are many similar bug reports that are going to be closed and are simliar without kde 4.2 but the options for them are not necessarily fixes for all.

e.g https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/315267 it says that you can dl a package to fix this tearing by adjusting vsync. I am using kwin composting effects which is not the same.

This I have read about using xv, x11 and such video outputs, the horizontal tearing is still there even with desktop effects (kwin) turned off.

I am going to look for vsync in kwin but still wanted to post bug.

Hi cjae1,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

In Jaunty (9.04) we have dropped the nvidia-graphics-driver-177 package, as
it is superseded by nvidia-graphics-drivers-180.

Because of this, we are closing this bug as expired.

You are encouraged to file your -nvidia bug reports against the
nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 package.
