The 'Unable To Retrieve Buddy List' dialog is recreated every few seconds

Bug Description

Pidgin 2.5.2 on Ubuntu Intrepid

When pidgin cannot retrieve the aim buddy list, it shows a dialog. It opens a new one every few seconds, till you have many copies of the same dialog. I imagine if left alone for a few hours, it would crash pidgin, crash user space, or use up all ram.

See the attached picture for an example:

I can confirm that this is happening. Same popup message. I had to disable my AIM accounts to stop the popup. After I re-enabled the accounts the popups stopped...

maybe a check should be added to that if the popup happens once, it is not repeated. This would prevent further problems like this occurring in the future.

unfortunately, I don't have any other debug info to add. I couldn't find anything in the system logs, nor could I find any error logs for pidgin.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test a current, supported, Ubuntu version. Thanks in advance
