Bug Description

Binary package hint: kmail

There was a left over lock-file in my .gnupg directory from some crash, blocking all gpg-related activity. This caused kmail to freeze, even if I didn't want to send encrypted or signed emails.

The backtrace (which I have unfortunately not saved) traced the problem to gpg. strace showed, that kmail (or gpg itself?) repeats trying to use gpg indefinitely (each time a call to select times out, then it starts over) freezing kmail/kontact completely.

Even if the original cause is not related to kmail, the application shouldn't freeze. Either it should give an error message after some fixed timeout, or try to recover otherwise. Maybe this is a problem with gpg/gpgme?

I'm using the latest kmail 1.11.0 (KDE4.2) from the backports repository for intrepid, gpg 1.4.9 and gpgme 1.1.6.

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
