Bug Description

Binary package hint: udev

ifrename was dropped in favor of udev, but there is now no user-space way to rename interfaces. The old way to rename interfaces with ifrename was:

ifrename -c /dev/null -i $OLDIFACE -n $NEWIFACE

This obviously isn't a bug with udev ;)

You're free to repackage ifrename and upload it - just be sure to remove all traces of its /etc/iftab support and init.d script, otherwise you'll end up with very bad deadlocks between it and udev

Changed in udev:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist

(also I have a slight hunch that if you did rename it with ifrename, udev would just rename it back again <g>)
