Bug Description

After setting my configuration using "Screen resolution" it is not remembered when i log in again.
Strangely if i change conf (after re-logging in) and then click on "keep previous resolution" it remember the old one.
I'm using jaunty and my video card is intel.

Ditto.

Info: I installed 8.10 from CD then added Jaunty sources and did a apt-get upgrade ; apt-get dist-upgrade on 4 March 2009.

On login the displays are always mirrored.

After "keep previous resolution" the second head is reset to 1680 × 1050 (as it should be) yet not all is well. Sometimes the desktop background doesn't fill the whole screen. Sometimes windows can't be moved to all parts of the screen. Sometimes screen redrawing is incomplete. In one latter instance, doing a suspend and resume cured the problem.

But the suspend-and-resume trick doesn't always work. I have just now used the "keep previous resolution" trick and adjusted the screen resolution several times, and suspended and resumed several times, but windows are still not being drawn and erased correctly; and I can't drag windows from one head to the other.

Please let me know what information you may need.

This may not be very useful information, but ...

I apt-get upgrade ; apt-get dist-upgrade Jaunty every couple of days.

Since yesterday I am not having the reported problem any more. Now when I log in the resolution is set correctly (in my case 1024 × 768 on the laptop panel, 1680 × 1050 on the external monitor relative-positioned above the panel).

I will report back again if the problem reoccurs, hopefully with more information about the circumstances under which it occurs.

Me again.

I experience a problem with "remembering resolution settings" again today. I undocked and redocked my ThinkPad X61. This disconnected and reconnected the external monitor attached to the dock. Afterwards the external monitor mirrored the laptop display. After reboot with the laptop docked, the external monitor was back to its correct resolution (1680 × 1050, not mirrored).

A new problem is that the Screen Resolution application is gone. See bug #341017.

Ahh, it's now called "Display" (under System | Preferences).

I am not having this problem any more. Seems to have been fixed in the runup to Jaunty release.
