Bug Description
Hi All,
Summary: I have a 5.1 USB Sound Card (GWC 5.1 sound card) and a 5.1 system.
http://
Unfortunately I only get 2.1 sound and following many different .asoundrc instructions including the one listed on newegg site by a previous buyer of the card, I continue to get the following error:
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect: Connection refused
Details:
Running Ubuntu 8.10 on a Dell Inspiron 9400, 2 gigs of RAM
It seems to me like the problem is when I add the following line to my .asoundrc
pcm.!default {
but I am almost positive that is necessary for me to get 5.1 working. If I remove that in codes I don't get the error but I also don't get 5.1 sound.
Other things I've tried:

http://
I have tried on both ALSA 1.0.15 from the repositories as well as on the newest driver/lib/utils from the site (what I currently have, 1.0.19)
aplay -L shows my external sound card

Hi Jmadero,
Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http:// cdimage. ubuntu. com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications- >Accessories- >Terminal) . It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.
apport-collect -p alsa-base 337278
Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds .
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream- testing' text.
Please let us know your results.
