Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

While similar to other bugs being reported, I have actually had a different experience.

quick search works as a filter, but if I type more than one letter then only installed packages remains. only typing one letter appears to work normally.

I would expect it to filter through package names containing the quick search sequence, like grep. doing a normal search results in the intersection.

I've found the same behavior with 9.04 alpha 5 on i386.

I have the same issue (or similar) with 9.04 alpha 5 on a amd64. For me, the quick search only shows installed packages, regardless of number of letters entered, but the search feature will work for one letter searches only,

Marking as duplicate. Unless you find that the workaround given by Ben Straton is not working for you?
