Bug Description

This is in Jaunty 9.04

Just ran Partial Upgrade today. I got an error message - "Can't install ubuntu-desktop. It was impossible to install a required package. Please report this as a bug"

I followed the advice to "-f install" and I got this reply from the terminal:

sudo apt-get -f install ubuntu-desktop
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
ubuntu-desktop is already the newest version.
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
ubuntu-desktop: Depends: gnome-app-install but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: gnome-games but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: ubufox but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

So then I tried to -f install the unmet dependencies:

sudo apt-get -f install gnome-app-install gnome-games ubufox
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies.
gnome-app-install: Depends: python-launchpad-integration but it is not going to be installed
gnome-games: Depends: python-launchpad-integration but it is not going to be installed
ubufox: Depends: apturl (>= 0.1.2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Hope this helps, if there's any other info you need I'll try to get it for you.

i've got the same bug after the today update of Jaunty, and when i restart the machine, the Xserver doesn't work in the right way; it goes in low-graphics mode.

From gnome-app-install: Depends: python-launchpad-integration but it is not going to be installed

python-launchpad-integration is having problems recognizing the version of python.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
python-launchpad-integration: Depends: python (< 2.6) but 2.6.1-0ubuntu1 is to be installed

Confirmed; there are a million other similar bug reports popping up because of applications that depend on python<2.6 (awn, picard, etc.).

Any way to fix this?

Confirmed, same problem here, all updates 28th Feb 2009, this is probably because its dependencies haven't been rebuilt with python 2.6, you can run the command it says without breaking Ubuntu, and just wait until they are rebuilt, then reinstall ubuntu-desktop in the usual way (sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop)

PS the first beta is very soon, I think the dependent packages need to be rebuilt asap or we're going to end up with endless problems causing a revert to 2.5!!

But python-launchpad-integration has nothing to do with GNOME...
