Using Ubuntu 9.04, I can confirm this error. A VPN connection which worked in Ubuntu 8.10 gives this error/warning from nm-applet:

** (nm-applet:32714): WARNING **: Error in getting active connection 'Vpn' property: (19) Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist

** (nm-applet:32714): WARNING **: _nm_object_array_demarshal: couldn't create object for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/22

And nothing happens

I confirm I get the same results.

I have also verified that I loaded the ppp_mppe.ko kernel module.

After doing some reading this problem occurs especially frequent when using wireless devices.

My syslog says:

LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Jul 4 12:15:43 andromeda pppd[4874]: Connection terminated.
Jul 4 12:15:43 andromeda NetworkManager: <info> VPN plugin failed: 1

Read http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-diagnosis.phtml#lcp_timeout

Here my knowledge ends.

This is really annoying. Can't use ipredator service with UTMS.

I managed to get this to work by fiddling with the options.
I am not sure which one was the critical change, so I need your help.

1. I managed to get VPN (PPTP) to work over a wireless connection
2. I think the important change was to disallow 'EAP Authetication method', in the Advance Settings.
3. You can add 'debug' to both /etc/ppp/options and /etc/ppp/options.pptp. Then, you can see the full ppp debug in
/var/log/daemon.log
