popup notifications are blank

Bug Description

Binary package hint: notification-daemon

My Jaunty notification popups are blank - for example, see the attached screenshot, which shows the 'volume up' notification. Turning compiz on and off makes no difference.

Running from the live installer CD, the notifications weren't blank - they were filled, as expected, so it might be something to do with the nvidia driver.

Versions:

Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-8-generic
libnotify1 0.4.5-0ubuntu1
nvidia 180.29 driver

It's nothing to do with nvidia; I get the same problem with the default nv driver.

Note: notifications for apport crashes have text in them, it seems to be just some (the volume and screen brightness are examples) that are blank.

I can confirm this. There is no text/icons in the new notifications.

Are you using the default ubuntu theme?

I'm using one with a slightly modified icon set, which I created by copying the human icons directory and overwriting some of the icons. Reverting to the default ubuntu icon set fixes the problem. Why would this be causing problems with the popups?

This bug seems to be a duplicate of bug #331311, just it involves a custom theme/icon set and the new notification system displaying blank notifications.
