Apparently, something blows up inside pulseaudio, as usual. Mplayer works fine.

(Couldn't get debugging syms for libc6 installed; libc6-dbg: Depends: libc6 (= 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu9) but 2.9-0ubuntu9 is to be installed.)

You need to perform a full distribution upgrade; your kernel and libc6, at the very least, are outdated.
