Bug Description

I have no idea if this is the right package to have filed against, but it seemed the best guess.

I have an HP nw8240 laptop that I'm trying to load dapper flight 4 on. I've tried both the live cd and the install cd. Neither will boot their default kernel. They give an I/O error that the ramdisk could not be found. The server install kernel on the install cd, however, does boot successfully.

To eliminate the possibility of this being bad image/cdr/burn/etc I've downloadedand burned the image nearly 10 times, on 3 machines, at different speeds, with multiple blank cds, and only this one machine has had a problem with any of them.

You should switch to text mode and install that way.

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this linux-source-2.6.15 kernel bug to the new "linux" package. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Also, if you would be interested in testing the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release, it is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks!
