Bug Description

Binary package hint: openswan

The newest openswan 2.6.X releases fix several important bugs that caused a lof of trouble when establishing tunnels.

Attached is a source package that seems to work for our needs, but a careful review is certainly a good idea.

Might need a freeze exception: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess - we're past Feature Freeze now.

Is it a bugfix only release?

Wow... this'd be a 2.4.12 to 2.6.20 jump. Do you know if there's any work on this in Debian?

YoBoY:
What I have submitted is not just "an idea to improve Ubuntu". It solves actual bugs and problems. I could as well have written "Openswan 2.4.x is bugged and outdated" in the title.

Daniel:
It is probably better to wait past alpha 5 release to push this. This is the kind of package that requires some length of time for reviewing, testing and adjusting.
I submitted the package to the Debian maintainers via e-mail, I did not file a bug there yet. I am waiting for their feedback.

I got a reply on 2009-02-28 from Rene Mayrhofer (package maintainer for Debian):

As this will require a Freeze Exception (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess), I am unsubscribing ubuntu-universe-sponsors and changing the Status back to 'New'. Once you attach the necessary information, please subscribe motu-release to this bug.

Release uploaded to Karmic.

If you think the package should be backported to Jaunty, fill a backport request at https://launchpad.net/products/jaunty-backports/+filebug and follow the procedure at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports

To help you, I've uploaded openswan 1:2.6.20+dfsg-4 to my ppa for Jaunty. I haven't tested the package, but you can download it and test it at https://launchpad.net/~loic-martin3/+archive/ppa
