Misaligned preview in open dialog with right-to-left locales

While opening the "Open file" dialog box in Ubuntu 8.04 and Inkscape 0.46 (That ships with this release)
The preview shows only part of the displayed image and the "No Preview" text (In Hebrew) when there's no image is only partial

Please have a look at it, this bug was posted earlier at the Inkscape bug tracker as:

A pre-release of the upcoming Inkscape 0.47 is now available in Ubuntu
Karmic for testing. Because *so* much stuff has changed compared with
the version you reported your bug against, would you mind re-testing
this new version and see if this bug is now resolved?

Karmic Alpha CD ISO images are available at:

If you're not testing Karmic yet, there are .debs of this new Inkscape
for Jaunty, Hardy, and Intrepid here:

If anyone can guide me on how to change the locale for a single app
temporarily I can go back and check that.. I don't have a Hebrew localized
machine

You can try:

    LANGUAGE=he_IL.UTF.8 inkscape

But if you are testing translations, I'd very much recommend running a localized machine in your language.

If I was the only translator I would have probably done that but since there
are many lousy translators the Hebrew interface is still not intuitive
enough for my needs (for the average user there's absolutely no problems)
Therefore I must use the English interface
I hope that sooner or later we will be able to allocate more human resources
towards damage control, untill then we can only educate the new translators
so they wont repeat the mistakes the past translators did
Thanks for the advice though, I'll sure try and arrange another machine here
with Hebrew interface on it although it might take a while...

Of course it is, because its vte related, we should wait so that vte will
support complex scripts, until then this bug is still valid.

Sorry, it has nothing to do with vte, I guess its only related to the way GTK handles RTL, I don't see the point in the "translation" tag...

Finally got round to checking this out in inkscape_0.48.0-1ubuntu1. I can confirm that the preview is cropped. I can't read/speak Hebrew, so I can't confirm the text issue!
