Bug Description

For some reason, whenever I focus on the desktop, the window-picker-applet is blank. This used to not be the case, showing instead the word "Home" and a log-out button on the right. Every other application shows a title bar.

Hi guys, this is the new "look" for window-picker-applet. The reason for the change was that the home title bar was a bit redundant with "Home" being covered by the big "Ubuntu" logo and text on the launcher (which matches with the Ubuntu icon you click to get to the launcher on the panel). The "Quit" icon was also covered by the larger Quit button on the menu.

I hope you'll get used to the change, as I think the default look of the desktop looks a bit nicer now too (without the white titlebar sticking out from the dark-look of the launcher and panel).

If you want the titlebar back, you can set /apps/window-picker-applet/show_home_title to true in GConf. Please let me know if you do decide to re-enable the title , and why you missed it :)

Thanks for pointing me at the config setting. It would be nice if it were added to gconf by default so that the user could find it with gconf-editor. It's easy enough to set or check from the command line, though, so I'm all set with it.

This change happened to coincide with a buggy netbook-launcher, which meant that when netbook-launcher crashed, their was no way to log out without restarting netbook-launcher first. I know ... a bug in another program is not a reason to keep this functionality in the window-picker.

In truth, I just like the consistency of alway having something in the title bar slot on the panel. In fact, I would even prefer to have a redundant window-picker title-bar for windows that already have a title bar because they aren't maximize ... again, it's all about having a consistent panel layout with one place to look to see which program currently has focus.

Yeah, I changed mine back, for the same reason that Brandon did (consistency). Also, with this new "look," it's pretty buggy; the title bar appears (without a white background) with home, but disappears the first time you focus on the desktop, and sometimes will appear again when focusing on the desktop while certain processes are happening, such as when installing something with synaptic.

There are still 2 problems with this that need to be addressed:
1)home icon and quit button are still showing up on a black border when launcher is first started
2)when setting the gconf key /apps/window-picker-applet/show_home_title to true, the home title is correctly shown. But after the first suspend/resume it disappears. Perhaps the resume code is not honoring the gconf key setting?
