linux 2.6.28-1-rt does not boot up with kernel panic

I had just installed the above kernel and it would not boot up, with kernel panic, on my Asus laptop.
I may be partially the cause of the problem because I have an experimental alsa-driver installed, that runs my Creative X-fi soundcard. I have also apt-get purged pulseaudio, because it does not work with wine.

Hmm...
All my logs under /var/log are all related to successful 8-generic boots. Is it possible that I am getting kernel panic before the log process even starts, or that it is somewhere else?
PS. I have run older linux-rt's on this machine and they have worked fine.

I suspect, that I'm having a same problem (with an ASUS laptop as well). I'm getting kernel panic almost immediately after the GRUB prompt, the filesystems don't even get mounted, and no logs are written.

How can I capture the logs in this case?

Woops, the bug is fixed for me in linux-image-2.6.28-2-rt! Great news!
