Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

When a flashplayer menu is opened, e.g. the menu that comes up when you right click and select preferences the flashplayer locks up and doesn't react to input anymore.

This is not a real problem with the preferences menu because it is pretty much useless anyway but it makes all flash files that require video or sound input useless because you can't grant them access to a device.

Example:

Go to YouTube and open the Quickcapture tool (http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_quick_capture)
A menu opens up asking you to grant access to your webcam.
You cannot grant access because the menu doesn't react to input anymore.

I realize flash is closed source and there's not much anyone can do about this except Adobe, but it's still a bug and maybe there is a workaround available.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

It would be helpful to know
1. Flavor & version of Ubuntu
2. 32bit or 64bit

Might also help to do
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-nonfree
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Did that help?

Thanks!

When I reported the bug I used Intrepid, now I upgraded to Jaunty.

I am using Ubuntu 32 bit

Reinstalling the Plugin didn't change anything.

Btw, which one is the 'official' package now?
At first the flash package was called "flashplugin-nonfree", then it was changed to "adobe-flashplugin" in intrepid and now in Jaunty both exist and "flashplugin-nonfree" has a higher version number.

It's very hard to do a good bug report on this because of the closed source nature of flash.

I ran into this problem on Karmic.

To get around this, go to http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager06.html and manually set whatever webpage that needs camera/mic access to always allow.
