Bug Description

I see this with under mythbuntu 8.10 (fresh install and with current updates) on an nvidia 8400GS card on an Asus P5QL-E board with the nvidia 180 driver when installed via envyng
Some investigations at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6777316
If the 180 driver is installed via the Restricted Drivers Manager, it doesn't drop back to the text screen but still hangs with a blank screen.
The 173 and 177 drivers also don't drop back to the text screen and hang with a blank screen.

I decided to see what happens with a normal install of ubuntu (8.10), with no patches.
I installed the nvidia-180-modaliases and had the Restricted Drivers Manager give me the nvidia 180 driver option.
After that was done, I rebooted and the login prompt appears.
I get the plain brown background the mouse pointer could be moved briefly before it freezes. It does not drop back to the text prompt, the keyboard does not respond and a hard reset is needed.

The following is without the two tv tuners installed:

I installed mythbuntu 8.10 with current updates to today.
Installed the nvidia-180-modaliases and used enyng to install the nvidia driver (180).
I then unselected the mythtv front end from autostarting in the xfce4 autostart manager.

Rebooted the machine, and now the desktop is usable until I use an application that touches anything to do with GLX:
mythtv frontend.
glxgears
the nvidia bug reporter (though it does appear to generate a complete file)
nvidia-settings (but only when selecting the GLX information).

In Jaunty (9.04), we have just updated to the latest

This package provides fixes for a large number of bugs, and we need your
assistance in testing if it fixes the issue you reported.

To do this, please do the following:

 a. Update to the 180.44 version of -nvidia using your favorite update
     method

 b. Attempt to reproduce your bug

 c. If your bug still remains, please simply reply to this email
     indicating so.

 d. If your bug is now solved, you can help us by setting your bug
     report to Fix Released:
     * In launchpad, go to your bug report
     * Click on the downward pointing arrow under Status
     * Set the Status field to 'Fix Released'
     * Comment on the change, such as, 'Verified fixed in 180.44'
     * Click 'Save Changes'

 e. If the original problem is solved but there are now other problems,
please close the original bug and open new ones for those issues.

Thank you!

Installed mythbuntu daily build from 9th April 2009, used envyng to install the nvidia 180.44 driver.
Now the "Checking battery state..." does not happen - just a blank screen after the boot/load splash has finished.

Looks like this was a hardware problem.
Got another motherboard (Gigabyte) and video card, mythbuntu installs ok with the nvidia driver and glxgears runs fine.
Marking as invalid.
