wrong errors when usb-creator can't open ISO

Bug Description

I've downloaded an ISO image for Ubuntu 8.10 i386 Desktop to create a live-usb stick
When I'm selecting the iso in the usb-creator the following error pops up:
This is not a desktop install CD and thus cannot be used by this application.

Now I've come to the conclusion my download went wrong and indeed there is an MD5sum difference.
The bug I issue is the wrong text message. It should say something about a possibility of a broken image file.
A feature request is maybe an (online) MD5sum checker and/or internal download engine.

Thank you for this bug report. Do you have the md5sum / size of the image you downloaded, just for verification that there isn't another issue with the USB creator?

Thanks!

No, sorry, I don't have the sum anymore, but I redownloaded the package and checked the sums, now they match and usb-creator does it's job perfectly now. I know the download must have gone wrong because the filesize was a bit less then 600MB, while it should be around 699MB

I think that's just what this bug is about. Handling corrupted data in a nice way and returning useful feedback to the user.

I agree that the message should be reworded. I'll change it to say "This is either not an Ubuntu CD, or the CD is damaged." during the next development cycle, as it's too late for Karmic.

This issue looks like related to bug 275141, Please could you check under latest release included in Ubuntu Lucid if this behaviour is still occuring? Thanks!
