Has this bug been fixed in the final jaunty release or not? If so it should be marked invalid

I'm seeing the same thing on my HP Compaq 6910p laptop. This laptop has both a touchpad and a mini-joystick in the middle of the keyboard. With Kubuntu 9.04 everything worked just fine, but after installing 9.10 I find that the touchpad does not work at all, neither do any of the mouse buttons. Moving the mouse pointer with the mini-joystick does work, but it is useless without the ability to use any mouse buttons. Connecting an external USB mouse works.

I found the problem. I was running the 2.6.27-7 kernel (kept over somehow from my 9.04 install). I installed the grub-pc package (which uninstalled the older grub package) then I was able to boot the 2.6.31-14 kernel which allowed things to work.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.04). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running "apport-collect 332594", and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

Issue with touchpad.
I have just been upgraded by Software Updater into ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
I find that the touchpad has just stopped working. Its pushbuttons have also stopped working. Now, the mouse pointer can be used only with the little joystick in the center of the keyboard (its dedicated pushbuttons work) and with an external USB mouse.
Hope this info is of any use.
Regards.
