Bug Description

Binary package hint: bluez-gnome

The "Setup new device" wizard presents you with a screen saying "Select the device you want to setup" even if no devices are available. This is less than helpful.

Here's a patch from version 1.8 (froun apt-get sourct) which adds an extra label to the device chooser menu, which makes it more obvious that there is an active search for devices going on.

It may be prudent to add one of those spinning animated images that seem to be showing up everywhere, too.

That's a great improvement, thank you! I didn't even realize it was actively scanning. Maybe something explicit like "when you tell your device to start pairing it should show up in this list"?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Karmic Koala. It won't be fixed in previous versions of Ubuntu because the package doesn't fit the requirements for backporting. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports for more information.
