Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

The panel icon state changes are one step in front of the notification icon changes, e.g. the panel icon displays two sound waves, while the notification icon still shows only one.

I'm confused on what you're saying here. Is it that they don't have the same value or that they don't change at the same time?

Can you try if this is still an issue in Karmic? I compared the code in g-s-d and g-v-c-applet, and this should not be an issue now, as the icon name is calculated in exactly the same way. It might have been an issue specifically with the old mixer applet though.
