Can you check if you still have problems with 1.7.1 which I just released?
If you are running 9.04 there is a backport available here:

Changing to invalid, not much we can do with the provided information. At least the .conkyrc file should be provided (it should with the new apport support added in the recent packages).

Only to confirm-had the same problem with conky 1.6.1 + Ubuntu 9.04 -after installing conky 1.7.2 this problem does not exist any more.
