Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

While I can connect to geraldreisner.ipower.com via 3rd party ftp software (e.g. Filezilla), I am unable to connect to the ftp site using "Places-->Connect to Server". Other colleagues have had the same problem.
I called iPower to report the problem, but I don't think they understand the problem; as far as they're concerned everything works okay because they can access the ftp location. The issue is connecting with the Connect to Server applet. I am successful in accessing other ftp sites. Don't really know if this is a bug....!!??!!

 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Here is some further information to describe the exact problem I encountered:
Using "Places-->Connect to Server" I tried to get to my ftp site using location "geraldreisner.com" with the user name "geraldreisner". There is no place to enter a password; according to the Ubuntu documentation, I should eventually be prompted for the password. (This is case when one uses Firefox to get to the ftp site. This did not occur. I only get a message from the server that it can't open the connection.
My understanding is that I should be able to get to the ftp site with this method....Please write if you need more info.....Thanks, Gerald Reisner

Some more specifics, so you can isolate the source of the problem (I do believe this is a bug):

When trying to use Places-->Connect to server, the precise error message is:
Cannot display location "ftp://<email address hidden>" Invalid reply.
I believe that "Connect to server" is not properly handling a valid response from the ftp site. Using a terminal window, and the ftp command in verbose modem this is what you see getting returned by the ftp location. I believe the "Connect to Server" application is having difficulty parsing this valid response
