Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.04 Linux uriel-laptop 2.6.28-8-generic #24-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 18 18:48:55 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

System hangs, while i'm working in the Eclipse Development Envinorment. the mouse keeps working but every other thing on the screen becomes unresponsive, system reacts only on the magic SysRq combination Alt+SysRq+R, E, B, it started happening after the latest packaged update (if i remember it was 5:00 or 6:00 pm) i've checked out my logs, and found this in kernel log

Feb 19 18:50:14 uriel-laptop kernel: [ 156.028077] [drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get vblank count for disabled pipe 0
Feb 19 18:50:14 uriel-laptop kernel: [ 156.030755] mtrr: no MTRR for d0000000,10000000 found
Feb 19 18:58:01 uriel-laptop kernel: [ 623.430029] SysRq : Keyboard mode set to system default

i'll include full kern.log
i hope this helps solving it quicly

i'll try on running with xorg.conf option noMTRR and see if it helps

After restart with NoMTRR, i've run glxgears (it didn't impact performance) and then looked into kern.log again, at the end i found

Hi JByteCoder,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 331685

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
