Bug Description

I am running 8.10 hardy heron on a hp vectra vli, 600 mHz pIII, 512 MB RAM, ATI 9250 Radeon w/256 MB RAM, 3Com 100 mb ethernet card.

My problem is that clamav, v. 0.92.1, running with clamtk 3.0.8, shows no virus definitions or date when help is clicked and system information is opened. (applications/system tools/virus scanner/clamav/help/system information).

I have two separate hard drives running 8.10, both set as primary, so one cannot see the other, (I remove and install the drive I want to run), so I cannot see how two separate drives can be afflicted with the same symptoms.

Could it be the server for virus definitions is down?

sudo/freshclam -v shows virus definitions are up to date, over 513,000.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in clamav.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I can confirm that on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid, that clicking Help -> Update Signatures -> Check for updates returns a failed status as well. Even though when sudo freshclam -v does return the correct definitions for today.

This is actually a clamtk problem that is already fixed in a later release. It's not actually a problem. The system freshclam checks for and downloads once per hour. You can verify this in the freshclam log in /var/log/clamav.
