Thank you for taking the time to make Ubuntu better.
A fix for this issue is included in etcinsvk version 1.1, which will be included in Ubuntu 9.04.
In the meantime, a successful workaround is described at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/etcinsvk/+bug/316929/comments/2
