Could you please let us know the type of machine this is (make and model). Did you recently have a hibernate failure, this could have been some time before the report was triggered and offered to you. If you did, did the machine break while going to sleep, or while coming back from sleep? Is this reproducible say over 10 cycles. Has hibernate ever worked in the past, if so which kernel release (cat /proc/version_signature)? Please include any information as to the circumstances leading up to this failure, for example did your battery run out? Did the machine lock up, did any messages come out? If it is reproducible could you try the hibernate from VT1, press ctrl-alt-F1, login, and run pm-hibernate there. If you could test and report back here that would be helpful.

The notebook is a Gateway m675. Since I have upgraded to jaunty I haven't been able to use hibernate. I am now using Alpha 5 with the same problem. It didn't worn me of a problem before the computer shut off. After booting up and logging in to gnome, I see the crash notification. I have tried more then 10 times with the same results. Prior to Jaunty, hibernate has worked. I tried running pm-hibernate from VT1, but had the same results.

I will try to soon post /proc/version_signature and maybe a log of stdout of pm-hibernate. If there is anything else I can do, please let me know.
I am a busy college student, but I will post as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time

Now after running pm-hibernate, I see this message on the screen before the computer goes off:

[80894.341545] pm_op(): pci_pm_thaw+0x0/0x50 returns -16
[80894.341548] PM: Device 0000:00:00.0 failed to thaw: error -16

Can you try my post on 340804? It worked on my DELL M1330. Somehow the UUID's got mixed on the Jaunty upgrade.

Hi,

I'm not quite sure what the status of this page implies (Incomplete -> Invalid).

I get a similar error message: (...) "failed to thaw: error -16".

On my IBM Thinkpad R50.

(I'm dual-booting with BING, XP & Jaunty)

((And I'm a Ubuntu Newbie))

PS: shortly after displaying that error message, it does successfully hibernate, though.

(is there a way to edit / update one's posts, rather than posting separate posts for each edit?)
