Please post the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log[.old] after it crashes. If X has restarted, post the .old log, otherwise post the one without the .old suffix.

Generally if X restarts, it's because X crashes. I believe that pm-utils should not be involved for this matter.

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

If X is restarting, it suggests an X crash, but we need a backtrace or error message before we can begin troubleshooting. Look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old or files in /var/log/gdm/ to find any relevant looking error messages or backtraces and attach those files.

I notice in the bug report it mentions a kernel oops; could this be a kernel crash rather than X? Needs more info...

had same issue since intrepid
just found out that setting Option "dri" "off" in xorg.conf corrects the problem
unfortuntately, it also disables compiz and display slows down dramatically

I have exactly the same problem. Suspend resume works perfectly when dri is disabled, but once it's enabled resume never works. My card is an Xpress 200M (RS480).
