Bug Description

Hi All,

In the version of terminator that was installed in ubuntu hardy the
transparency worked well in a certain way. When you have transparent
terminal turned on terminator would NOT show what app was below it but
transparently show the entire desktop background. That was what i
wanted. I do not want to see the apps below, i want a full screen
terminal, which I can split and still see the full desktop background
below. Apparently transparency was actually broken then and that is why
it was like that. Please could someone add that as a switch.

I re-iterate. I do not want to set a background for terminator. As my
background changes randomly with a script and cannot be integrated with
terminator and when you do turn on backgrounds in terminator and you
split screens then each window has a copy of the background. not very
cool.

What will it take to add this switch?

thanks

This should now be fixed in trunk and as a nice side effect, the code is way simpler :)

if you have real transparency on, toggle it off with the GUI and toggle it back on, the real transparency is applied to only the new split terminals, not to the old ones.

Hi, i'm running jaunty with the latest updates and neither the requested transparency, to show the desktop background and not apps below, or the other type of transparency works. when i turn off compiz the transparency works, showing the desktop background.

thanks

if i set enable_real_transparency = true in the terminator config file transparency works. i think you refer to this as real transparency, ie seeing apps below the terminator window. still seems no way to get fake (i think is what you refer to) transparency to work, showing the desktop background below. I understand some people would want real transparency but I also find many other people on the net wanting fake transparency. would be great if there was a choice and still have compiz on.

thanks

psypher: the fix for this will be included in 0.13 when it's released. In the mean time you could choose to run Terminator from the bzr branch. Hopefully the release will be soon.

Hi Chris, I am using version 0.93 and this does not work. Please advise how I can get fake transparency working in the latest terminator so that my desktop is shown and not the applications below.

Thanks

psypher: 0.9x is a near-total rewrite of Terminator and currently there is no way to force it to do "fake" transparency if your desktop supports compositing. If you're desktop does not support compositing (i.e. you're not running something like compiz) we ought to fall back to the fake transparency.
