Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

When Ubuntu's firefox package is upgraded by the package manager while Firefox is running, the update notifier urges the user to restart the browser as soon as possible. Unfortunately, if the user does this, firefox will lose all session information (open tabs).

Is bug 309656 a duplicate?

The workaround that I use is this: don't restart Firefox by pressing the 'Restart' button, instead kill firefox with 'killall firefox' in a terminal (or the Run dialog you get with Alt+F2). Then, when you restart, Firefox will ask if you want to restore your lost session, and do so.
