Bug Description

I know I used oowriter on Friday. So, something has broken recently. When I try to start oowriter2 from the command line, I get:

andy@Eiger:~$ oowriter2
no suitable windowing system found, exiting.
andy@Eiger:~$

This happens for all of the OpenOffice programs. There is a thread here on the Ubuntu Forums where this is being discussed.

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=136119

Based on what we've talked about here, this does not seem to be affecting 32bit users. But, I don't know exactly which package the problem is in (ia32, etc.), so I filed it here. I apologize if this isn't the best place.

There's a mistake in the package. All you need to do is:
cd /usr/lib/openoffice2/program/
sudo ln soffice.bin.real soffice.bin

and it fixes it. Hopefully they'll get this done soon.

But to be honest, the developers are working hard, they done a lot on this problem the last couple of days.

got it working at last ! (with nvidia driver)
i went to /usr/lib32 and noticed two different libnvidia-tls.so.1.0.8178, one in the same directory and the other in "nvidia" and a simlink ( libnvidia-tls.so.1) pinting to the first one. i made it point to the second one and it WORKED !
now i've my openoffice back.

cd /usr/lib32
sudo rm libnvidia-tls.so.1
sudo ln -s nvidia/libnvidia-tls.so.1.0.8178 libnvidia-tls.so.1

(didn't mean to blame the developers, just found it was not clear what was the problem, and a bit more of feedback could be nicer, i obviously appreciate their work, and i'm really thankful)

Looks like ia32-libs-gtk used to divert these two binaries, but nothing ever removed the diversions, hence the lack of binary.

Un-diverting them, however, just leads to a segv instead, so I'm assuming that something else needs to be done here (did we used to ship some sort of wrapper there?)
