Keyboard layout switching hotkey becomes disabled after monitor power-save

Bug Description

I have "Both Shift keys together change layout" checked in System > Preferences > Keyboard > Layouts > Other Options > Layout switching, but it seems that every time the monitor goes into power-save mode, this shortcut no longer works (but simply visiting those Preferences again restores everything to normal).

(This may or may not be related to a slightly less annoying problem, which is that while the monitor is in power-save mode, it seems to take a few seconds after the first keystroke for my monitor to wake up and my system to actually register the keystrokes. E.g., hitting Num Lock won't actually toggle the indicator light for about 5 seconds.)

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit on a Dell XPS 410 desktop.

Some more information: my (USB) keyboard is connected through my monitor to the computer, so I in fact turning off the monitor has the same effect.

Also, this *might* be the same bug, but not sure:

(Hence I think the gnome-power-manager package classification may be a red herring)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 9.04? Thanks in advance.

Sure, I'll try it out once I upgrade to 9.04.

Just upgraded to 9.04. Yes, it's still an issue. Disconnecting and reconnecting the USB keyboard forces me to re-set the keyboard layout switching preference.

I would guess that this was filed under the wrong package and should have been xorg. Can you try this in a Live CD of Lucid please? If this is a problem there please run
apport-collect 327805
and allow it to pull in all the information. You may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance.
